Kent Hance is a former American politician and attorney who served as the Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System from 2006 to 2014. He was born on November 14, 1942 in Dimmitt, Texas.
Hance began his political career in the Texas State Senate, where he served from 1975 to 1979. He then served in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985, representing the 19th district of Texas.Hance later served as the Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, overseeing the administration of Texas Tech University and its affiliated institutions.
In addition to his political and academic career, Hance is also a practicing attorney and has served as a senior partner at the law firm Hance Scarborough LLP.
Hance is known for his strong support of higher education in Texas and has been involved in numerous philanthropic efforts to support students and academic programs. He is also a member of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to public service and education.
